I have had some success once resizing partitions using GParted, rEFInd and the OSX command line tools when trying to help someone dual boot Windows. It is possible but it was an absolute nightmare if you can avoid it do so! Unfortunately I can't find any notes, but I think the eureka moment was discovering that there were a bunch of undocumented hidden commands in the Corestorage utilities. Sorry I can't be more specific, I'd spent pretty much a solid 24 hours on this and vowed not to entertain it ever again!
